Allied Telesyn AT 3012SL Network Hub & Switches Review

Allied Telesyn AT 3012SL

Description
As the market leader in unmanaged hubs, Allied Telesyn is committed to deliver outstanding connectivity products with excellent reliability at lowest industry cost. The 12, 16 and 24 port versions of the 3000SL Slim Line series exceed these requirements and deliver exceptional value to customers worldwide. The 3000SL Slim Line hubs feature an advanced network utilization indicator. This series of LEDs, located on the front panel, enables the network manager to get a quick read on the percentage of network utilization. Customers have found this feature to be an excellent way to track and manage network performance. The all steel chassis has been redesigned to fit a wider range of applications. While the width remains a standard rack mountable 17", the depth has been greatly reduced to only 5". This enhancement makes these unmanaged hubs an ideal choice for both desktop and rackmount configurations, as well as a cost-effective and compact front-end for Ethernet switches. The 3000SL series hubs from Allied Telesyn allow connection of as many as 24 IEEE 802.3 10Base-T network segments through one unit. Each hub has one twisted pair port specifically designed with an uplink connection (cascading) capability supporting a Media Dependent Interface (MDI/MDI-X). This port is enabled via a crossover switch. As many as four hubs can be cascaded together to form a single workgroup containing as many as 92 nodes. These unmanaged hubs also contain two additional ports for attachment to other LAN media. One such port is configured with an AUI port which when equipped with an external transceiver, can provide attachment to thick coax, twisted pair or fiber optic media. The alternate port is configured with a BNC connector for direct attachment to thin coax media. An external switch is provided to allow manual termination of the 10Base-2 port. Either the AUI port or the BNC interface may be selected or used simultaneously. Network diagnostics are provided to aid in troubleshooting and fault isolation. Each hub port has two LEDs; packet "Receive" and "Port OK". In addition, there are three central LEDs indicating "Activity", "Collision" and "Power" for the hubs.
