Black Box ServSwitch Wizard Pro Network Hub & Switches Review

Black Box ServSwitch Wizard Pro

Description
Outstanding video and a host of features make the ServSwitch Wizard and the ServSwitch Wizard PRO the best desktop switches around! A premium desktop KVM switch, the Wizard can handle any mix of desktop PCs, including most notebooks/laptops. It features high video resolution (1600 x 1280 @ 100 Hz) and an enhanced feature set. Both the 2- and 4-port models include built-in PS/2 and PC/AT compatibility, as well as support for MicroSoft IntelliMouse and burst mode/prompt mode mouse communication. The Wizard can also be used as a video switch, which means you can switch to a port without a connected keyboard. Switching between ports is done using the button on the chassis, via a "hot-key" sequence on your keyboard, or with a 3-button mouse. Plus, you can cascade multiple Wizards and control up to 64 CPUs! CPU connections are made through standard PC-style connectors. The Wizard also has built-in variable scanning and supports extended-distance CPU connections. However, to get full video resolution and extended distance, you need high-resolution Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM) Cables. Since power is drawn from connected CPUs, you don't need an external power supply. If, however, the CPUs don't provide enough power for the switch to operate reliably, the Power LED will flash or won't light at all - you need the 5-V Power Supply (PS649). Or if you're using the unit as a video switch (and, therefore, are not able to draw power from the keyboard ports), you need the optional power supply (PS649). ServSwitch Wizard PRO The Wizard PRO has the same great features as the Wizard, but it features a larger chassis that's strong enough to hold your monitor, as well as basic on-screen menus and a front-panel LCD activity indicator! Available in 4- and 8-port models, this interface-powered switch features the same great video output as the Wizard (1600 x 1280 @ 100 Hz).
