Description The OS-8508 is the third member of Osicom's line of FDDI hubs, providing a combination of low-cost and advanced manageability. Osicom designed the OS-8500 series to offer a wide range of FDDI connectivity choices. The system is available with eight ports and supplies two independent internal data paths to support fault tolerant and load balancing applications. Since the hub is a critical component of an FDDI network, the OS-8500 Series offers network administrators three different management access methods, and the power to determine their own needs when it comes to maintaining network service. First, you can manage the OS-8500 series hubs from any point on the network by using the built in Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) capabilities. If you want more detailed management information, you can use SMT Parameter Management Frames (PMFs) to read or write any attribute defined in the SMT MIB. Finally, the OS-8500 family offers a console interface for security conscious users. You can use the interface to gather statistics, change concentrator configurations, execute enhanced diagnostics, and so on.
