SMC Networks TigerSwitch 6508TF Network Hub & Switches Review

SMC Networks TigerSwitch 6508TF

Description
SMC's TigerSwitchT 8 family provides a combination of Ethernet and Fast Ethernet switching, plus a variety of management capabilities including SNMP and RMON-everything you'll need to relieve congestion on high-traffic networks. In addition to eight 10BASE-T ports for connection to Ethernet hubs, servers and power users, these three rack-mountable switches contain two Fast Ethernet ports so you can integrate this high-speed technology into your Ethernet LAN. The first is a 10BASE-T/ 100BASE-TX port, and the second is a 100BASE-FX port. With the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX ports, you can relieve server bottlenecks, support power users and connect to a high-speed backbone. And, with the built-in repeater, you can set up a server farm without having to purchase a separate Fast Ethernet hub. All the switched ports support full-duplex operation, so you can double the bandwidth of those server and switch connections. And, the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports support Auto-Negotiation, so the optimum operating mode-half or full duplex and 10 or 100 Mbps- is selected automatically. The TigerSwitch 8 devices employ a buffered "store-and-forward" design that performs error checking to prevent bad packets from being propagated throughout the network. And, their non-blocking architecture allows simultaneous wire-speed transport of multiple packets at very low latency. The result is increased performance. What's more, they feature an integrated scalable management set consisting of "at-a-glance" LEDs, Telnet, SNMP, four-group RMON, Spanning Tree and Port Mirroring, so you can choose the level of management that's right for you. There's also a connection for an optional Redundant Power Unit to minimize downtime in the event of a power failure.
