Summary

I think that the 5000US is a solid computer for home use. Stinks out of the box if you require speed or are a game player. After upgrade to 512 Mg pc133 RAM and 64m graphics card it's a zinger. Mine came with win ME and I dig it, great OS. I've heard the horror stories re Win ME but have had no touble. I've had my puter for about two years and think that I'll hold on to the 5000US for a couple more.

Strength

Easy for the novice to learn and upgrade. easy access to side panel.

Weakness

Slow worker right out of the box.

Summary

A friend bought this computer about 3 yrs ago because it was so inexpensive, about $400 without the monitor. There is a reason why it was so inexpensive, 64MB of RAM and no operation system disc. In the factory mode, it was extremely slow for a 750Mhz system, then I found out about 50MB of something was running in the background. Tried as I might, I couldn't get rid of them. I couldn't do a clean install without an operating system disc. So, instead, I stalled Windows 98SE and install 512MB of RAM. Now the computer is reasonably fast and absolutely stable. Much better than the factory configuration.

Strength

Decent hardware for the price

Weakness

Only 64MB of RAM and no operation system disc

Summary

The only complaint I've had about this system is the OS. I upgraded from Windows ME to WIN2k Pro , and Haven't had any problems. I've made upgrades , installed more Memory , added a 120Gig HD and a Lan Card. I don't see all the fuss about burnouts , I've run my system 24/7 for nearly 3 years now ( What are you guys doing tweaking your BIOS or someting? ) Overall , For what I paid at the time , it's still a solid piece of equipment. Remember , Windows ME bad , Windows 2000 Pro good.

Strength

Front USB PORTS EXPANDABLE BAYS

Weakness

Windows ME Front jacks for mics and headphones etc would be nice.
