Summary

I have found it a little difficult to upgrade but I can't just point the finger at Compaq, my knowledge is not allways complete, therefore it may just be me. I read a few of the other reviews and it makes me want to laugh. I have a feeling the people who had the most problems can contribute most of them to operator error. This was my case in the beginning as well, so I am not turning my nose at anybody. However, anybody who has had a windows computer for any length in time knows that if you have a problem, restart. If it is still there, reload Windows with the factory service pack. Don't upgrade things that you don't have all the knowledge on, and if you do so know that it will deffinately be a learning experience.

Strength

nothing has broken in the 2 1/2 years I have owned it. The factory edition of ME I had sent from Compaq is great, no problems at all.

Weakness

Not the best customer support when it comes to upgrading, but as far as routine maintenance it really good.

Summary

The computer ran great for the first 9-12 months then it began crashing and freezing up all the time. I had know idea why so i stuffed it with 500+ ram and it helped a little. Now it gets hung up on downloads and upgrades. I'm very frustrated with it because i want to run business accounting software on it and i'm afraid to do it. I'm not impressed with a computer that has such a wide spread problem of freezing up.I've had windows 3.1 computers that were more reliable and quick at 166

Summary

My 5000US was purchased in March of 2001. It worked fine for about 6 months and then started freezing up became verrrry slow. When I took it into Best Buy, it was still under warranty. Best Buy service replaced the mother board, the hard drive and the processor with new compaq parts. I was without a computer for over 6 months. I took it home after the 5th time in for repair and it worked for 2 hours, froze up and will now NOT reboot. Best Buy will not help and says it's Compaqs problem. I spent hours on the phone with Compaq tech support. They were very rude, and would not help in any way. You would have to be out of your freakin mind to ever buy a Compaq.

Strength

NONE

Weakness

Cheaply made, freezes constantly, will not boot and can't be fixed! Sadam is more friendly than the tech support people I spoke with. I will NEVER buy another Compaq or shop at Best Buy. I wish there was a -10 performance rating available.

Summary

This is the most worthless pile of garbage I’ve ever had the displeasure to work on. My roommate bought it a while back and ever since I moved in with him it has been nothing but trouble (no i did not cause it to run like crap he had problems before). The hard drive crashed and it runs really slow due to the 64mb of RAM. I got him to install 256mb of RAM and that helped the slowness but not the lockups. I put a new hard drive in the same time and installed windows 2k but it still randomly locks up. It locked up worse with Windows ME however. I think the Computer tech that said the motherboard can't keep up with today’s applications is right...except it couldn't keep up with the applications that were out when it was produced. NEVER buy one of these..or any other Compaq for that matter. Anyway if you get a chance throw it off a cliff or bridge and rid yourself of the anguish. For those people who do use this product and like it, more power to you but I am willing to bet you don't use this garbage..er Compaq for anything except email and casual internet use which is not too intensive.

Strength

The processor is decent but the motherboard is CRAP

Weakness

Motherboard RAM HardDrive Its a Compaq slower than my old 386 runnin windows 3.1
