Linksys WAP54G 802.11b/g Wireless Access Point

Consumer Rating

Price Range
$48 - $90

Product Description

Wireless-G is the 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than Wireless-B (802.11b) products - but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also work with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment. The Linksys Wireless-G Access Point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate your network clients to the new screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Access Point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC Address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network.

Summary

My successful (and experimental) odyssey into the world of wireless networking continues. So far I...

Strength

Ability to interoperate at 11Mbps & 54Mbps.

Weakness

None to speak of, yet, stay tuned.

Bottom Line

The Linksys Wireless-G WAP54G represents the best of both worlds; it can meet your need for current 802.11b standards, but still has the flexibility to expand beyond to 54Mbps.

Great Customer 24hr. Service

Drops Connection :-(

Bottom Line

Works good usually, randomly drops connection, probably due conflicting electronics in house. When it's working, I'm one happy camper; I'm still trying to narrow the dropped connections reasoning.

Weakness

can't uninstall, have to reset on every new install. just caveat emptor all around.

Bottom Line

Don't but ANY Linksys series G routers until they fix the fatal bugs and multitude of problems installing them.

Good performance. Good price. Linksys is a trusted name.

Weakness

The setup wizzard does not always work.

Bottom Line

This unit works great. Once you set it up you pretty much forget about it. Highly recommended.
