Product Description

Everyone in your family can surf the web wire-free because AirPort Express provides simultaneous wireless Internet access via your DSL or cable modem for up to 10 computers. Just like its big brother, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express uses the 802.11g wireless standard to deliver blazing data rates - up to 54 Mbps. It supports both Macs equipped with an AirPort Extreme Card and Wi-Fi-compliant 802.11g Windows PCs, as well as Macs with the older AirPort Card and 802.11b Windows PCs. Have several computers in your home but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a printer to the USB port on the AirPort Express Base Station and the printer instantly becomes available to everyone on your wireless network.AirPort Express with AirTunes brings your iTunes music in your Mac or PC into your living room - or wherever in your home you have a stereo or a set of powered speakers.

Summary

I just got my Airport Express (AX), for a seemingly high $119 (education price, $129 normally); but it's important to understand what the Airport Express can do. So what can that little what box do? - It can be a Wireless Access Point...

Strength

AirTunes, Print Server, and Router for $129

Weakness

Requires WDS for wireless to ethernet, no wired clients in router mode. Needs latest OS.

Bottom Line

Buy it if it fits your network, but note that it is not the ideal solution if you just want to connect some wireless computers to your cable/DSL connection.

Summary

I love music, I love my old 1981 Bang and Olufsen Beomaster 2400 stereo, and now I love MP3s, which have just begun outnumbering my CD's. Unfortunately, the only way I could hear them would be over my computer speakers or by burning a CD. How cool...

Strength

Good quality, easy installation, flexible use, good value, works seamlessly with iTunes.

Weakness

Potential networking complications, extending network option dramatically reduces performance, cables not included.

Bottom Line

Despite the hurdles, it's still the best option to broadcast your mp3's from your computer to your stereo.
